Young Carers

.Final Flyer_front

A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol. Research has identified that as many as 2 pupils in every class could be a young carer.

As a Partnership we are committed to working within the region to identify and support Young Carers. Working in partnership with local authorities, we have developed a full programme of activities for young people in Year 10 and 11.

You-NE Cares is an opportunity for young people who have caring responsibilities to come together and find out what it’s like to be a student at a university in the North East. In 2015-16 academic year, we delivered a pilot activity whereby over the 3 event programme, we provided a range of activities at each of the Partner universities. This event was run again very successfully over the 2016-17 year, and are delighted to announce its return in 2018! This enables every young person a chance to find out more about their potential future careers, whilst making new friends, build their confidence and most importantly – have fun! The Partnership offers this opportunity to all Young Carers in the region and does not specify entry requirements – we welcome students from all backgrounds.
