How the Green Paper affects Widening Participation
The Government launched its Green Paper on the future of higher education: Fulfilling our potential: Teaching Excellence, Social Mobility and Student Choice.
The Green Paper highlighted the Prime Minister’s targets for Widening Access to Higher Education in the UK to:
‘Double the proportion of disadvantaged backgrounds entering higher education by the end of this Parliament from 2009 levels. This would mean raising the participation rate of disadvantaged young people from 13.6% in 2009, to 27.2% in 2020. The Prime Minister has also committed to increasing the number of BME students going into higher education by 20% by 2020’.
