Access to the Professions is an exciting new strand of activity that allows students in Years 8 and 9 to find out how their current studies at school relate to university and beyond! The Partnership is, in line with the five local universities, currently developing five new events across the North East.
Access to the Professions allows students to explore a university campus, take part in interactive, subject-specific workshops and even hear from a number of local employers about their work in the North East. The aim of this activity is to introduce young people with a particular subject interested to a subject and professional route they may not have yet considered. Access to the Professions aims to contextualise the subjects students learn every day at school, with a particular career focus relevant to the North East.
Each university has been aligned a specific professional focus, outlined below. Over the coming months the universities will be targeting schools and students to attend Access to the Professions and spaces are limited, but if you have any questions in the meantime please email email@example.com.
With a focus on Medical Science and Research, students will gain an insight into the healthcare sector and how the science they use in school relates to real world jobs!
Newcastle University – Monday 21 March 2016
Focusing on Offshore Marine and Low Carbon Renewables, students will have the opportunity to tour Newcastle University’s Marine Laboratories, build their own cargo ships and race their inventions across the departments very own hydrodynamic tanks.
Northumbria University – Wednesday 29 June 2016
Working with Northumbria University’s Business school students will explore Business and Finance and the related professional services.
University of Sunderland – Wednesday 11 May 2016
The University of Sunderland has natural links with the automotive industry and so students will explore the courses and professions available in Automotive Engineering and Manufacturing.
Teesside University – Wednesday 25 May 2016
Focusing on Digital Creative Innovation, students will have the opportunity to explore the options available to them at university and beyond.
